If your interested in my bike ride, read on

I really enjoy bicycling for so many reasons. I was asked what one of my rides looks like. Here's tonight's ride. For what it's worth. This is from my Garmin Edge & Google Earth. Each box is a reading @ 6 second intervals.

The green line is elevation and the read is my heart rate.

Max elevation was 1,243 feet. Max heart rate was 167 beats per minute. Total calories burned 1,354

Tax credit for Bicyclers. . . . (No Joke $20 a month)

I have no idea how or why this ended up as part of the Federal Bailout but I'm glad it did.

Starting in January, workers who use their bicycles as their primary transportation mode to get to and from work will be eligible for a $20-a-month, tax-free reimbursement from their employers for bicycle-related expenses. In return, employers will be able to deduct the expense from their federal taxes.

$20 a month to ride my bike is more than I get paid now to ride my bike. This will also cover the cost of most of my yearly "replacement part" that I need at the end of each season.

So, if this looks like something you can take advantage of, talk to your employer. I'm sure they are not aware of this upcoming tax benefit.

Mission Accomplished (333 miles in 4 days)

I'm home. Mission Accomplished. Close to $100,000 raised for the two Ohio American Cancer Society Hope Houses.

A very short summary of my great bike adventure.
  1. It was a great life experience.
  2. Our team "Heals on Wheels" is a great bunch of people.
  3. 333 miles peddled. (Only two close calls. One at high speed.)
  4. From day one, I wondered where each rider stood in there relationship with God. I had the opportunity to have a couple of spiritual conversations.
  5. Some good pictures. See below.

Help me reach my goal. . .

August 7th thru 10th, I'll be riding my bicycle from Cleveland Ohio to Cincinnati Ohio to raise money for the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge. (300+ miles)
  • Day 1 Cleveland to Wooster (75 miles)
  • Day 2 Wooster to Columbus (90 miles)
  • Day 3 Columbus to Dayton (70 miles)
  • Day 4 Dayton to Cincinnati (75 miles)
The Hope Lodges are beautiful facilities provide free, supportive lodging to of cancer patients and caregivers who have to travel for treatment. They have helped more than 15,000 cancer patients and caregivers avoid millions in hotel bills and travel expenses.

On this post, I'm asking you to consider helping me reach my goal of $1,000. If you can help, please click on this link. Todd's Hope Lodge page.

Thanks so much.

Saved some $$ and am healthier for it

I've always wanted to try riding my bike to work. (I know I can do the distance as it's only 10.5 miles) The issue for me was putting all my work cloths in a backpack before I got on my bike.

Well today, I did it. I peddled my bike into work today. It was great. Even navigating two "big" hills it only took me 40 minutes. I showered and am ready to go.

Exercise in the a.m. really sets the tone for me. I forgot how great and energizing it is.

One other benefit of peddling to work. It's a creative way to save a few dollars by leaving my car in the garage and I'm healthier for it.

Off we go . . . .

It's 36 degrees outside and the white stuff is falling. What a great day to load up the bikes (5 of them) and hit the road. Myself, Bill G, Bud K, Scott W and Kevin B are heading down to Holly Springs NC to ride bicycle with our buddy Scott.

I'm really looking forward to getting away for a few days and riding hard. Last time we went down to ride with Scott, it was the beginning of the bike season in Ohio and I had to work hard to keep up with those NC bikers who had been riding for months. Now that I have 2,100 miles on my bike this year, I'm ready to ride up front with the "big dogs".

So, have a great weekend. I sure will.

History and a Bike Ride on a Sunday Afternoon

Today was a great day. Worship was wonderful as always. NewPointe is a great place to worship God. Cindy and I hade some old friends check out services today. It was nice to see Greg and Sandy. Worship is always a little extra special when you personally know people are here for the first time.

Sunday afternoons this time of year for me include bike rides. That bicycle rides. I'm now pushing close to 1,600 miles for the year. Today our route started from Gnadenhutten. Gnadenhutten was the settled in the late 1700's Ninty-six christian Indians were massicured there in 1782.

We left from Gnadenthutten and headed out on hill after hill until we reached Peoli. Peoli is where baseballs greatest player of all time is burried. Cy Young. It was cool to ride by his grave. I'm sure most people didn't know that he is burried right here in Tuscarawas County. Now you do.

7,000; 90+; 50+; 1,100 (What's with the numbers?)

Did the title peak your interest? It's no surprise that I like number. So, on my bike adventure to Holly Springs N.C. (Real close to Raleigh) I wanted to keep an eye on the number.

Kevin B, Rod S, and myself took a road trip this weekend to visit my buddy Scott M. We brought the bikes and road Saturday & Sunday in beautiful 83 degree sunny N.C. (Thanks for the great weather Scott)

Here are the number.

  • Calories burned by me during the rides - 7,000
  • Miles peddled on my bike - 90+
  • Number of riders for Sunday's ride - 50+
  • Miles driven there & back - 1,100 (all worth it)

Scott, thanks for a great time and letting us stay at your house. This will be an annual event.
